Ridiculous----Amazing----Etc....

Grey's Anatomy last night completely blew me away. Sarah already said most of what needs to be said about it, but there were two things she didn't talk about that I thought were truly awesome about last nights episode. Actually more than that, so I'll just type and see what comes out.

My thoughts are always more about the writing than anything, because I like writing (even though I'm an awful writer), and when you've watched enough television, you start to appreciate the really well done stuff. This show totally falls into that category. With sitcomes I don't care so much, as long as it's fun, but for drama, for me to sit frozen in front of the tube for an hour, it better be well written.

First off, I loved the way they brought something simple, and inconsequential completely full circle with the girls in the shower. It was so perfect because when you watched the first part of the episode right after the Super Bowl, you figured that was something just a little gratuitous to hook everyone in for the hour. Then, they brought it all the way around to when Meredith was just completely in shock, and broken, and you see the contrast, especially when you see it through the eyes of George.

Secondly, the way they built a relationship between Burke and Derek. First episode, Burke makes it so clear that he doesn't like Derek, and leaves it so simply. Then, through the course of the episode, they're stuck in this horribly impossible situation together, and if nothing else, gain a certain mutual respect from each other that you can really only get from going through a traumatic event.

Also, I thought it was interesting to see the other side of Bailey, b/c she's pretty much 99% bad-ass. At least, that's how she was always written. So seeing her so weak, giving up like that, and then seeing her snap back was awesome. Especially when she says "O'Malley, stop staring at my va-jay-jay". Priceless.

so true, i never really considered that show much more than a glorified soap opera, but last night impressed the hell out of me

Everything you wrote is spot-on, Gordo. These characters are just ridiculously well written. Bailey has got to be one of the best characters on TV. Ever.

I also liked the scene where Addison yelled at George. I mean she was being a jerk, yes, but it just showed how completely stressed out and pushed to her limits she was. You felt her hopelessness, and it was upsetting.

Seriously I could talk about this show for the rest of my life.
